Institution Interest:
The energy technology department of Fraunhofer UMSICHT involves the development, monitoring, analysis and management of energy supply and distribution plants drawing on economical and sustainable operation.
The current focus of Projects is on the efficient use of biomass, coal mine gas from abandoned mines (CMG), biogas and other lean gases. This involves making process-calculations and simulations as well as optimizing structural and operational aspects of the individual plants and components and also of complete supply systems.
In addition, pilot and demonstration equipment are set up. Various systems are subjected to economic feasibility studies and market analyses. Business focus areas are testing, market introduction and application of innovative systems for heat-power-cold (CHPC) systems.
As well as the conventional block-type CHP plants, increasing use is now being made of new CHPC-units, such as thermal chillers or fuel cells. Practical experience, project development and engineering services of local and district heating systems completes the picture.
