My thoughts about hydrogen filling stations.
On April 1, 2019, and this is not an April Fool's joke, the second Hanoverian and the 64th German hydrogen filling station was opened directly opposite the exhibition grounds.
I do not think much of such ceremonies.
So I went back two days later and spent interesting four hours there.
By accident, I have experienced the refilling of the hydrogen storage.
Most people do not know where the hydrogen that is offered here as clean and eco-friendly comes from.
It cares only a few.
In this case, the hydrogen comes by heavy diesel truck from the Chemical Park Marl, of AIR LIQUIDE Deutschland GmbH -
The French company has 66,000 employees worldwide and sales of € 21 billion in 2018.
In Marl it makes technical gases, medical gases, oxygen, nitrogen, noble gases, carbon dioxide, acetylene, hydrogen, media supply for the electronics industry, cryotechnical equipment, etc
The diesel-powered truck will travel 278 kilometers and return the same distance to fill the gas station with "black" hydrogen as needed.
And all this for 392 hydrogen cars registered in Germany by the end of 2018. There is something wrong.
A Hydrogen Hyundai of the sponsor, FCH from Brussels was refueled.
The filling station is not operated by SHELL, but by H2 Mobility GmbH.
This is the actual core of the hydrogen refueling station in Hannover-Laatzen. Looks really simple. However, I wonder: why does it all take so long and why were the previous promises not really kept?
This heavy diesel powered truck drives 278 kilometers, each way from the Chemical Park Marl, of AIR LIQUIDE Deutschland GmbH - to Hannover-Laatzen, to fill the hydrogen storage tanks of this h2 filling station.
Pedro Guedes de Campos, Financial Engineering Officer of FCH Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking is filling their Hyundai Hydrogen car, as the 4 peopel crew left the Hannover Fair to drive back to FCH`s headquarter in Brussels, Belgium. Bon voyage, buen viaje, I wish you a safe journey!
International interest in the hydrogen filling station already existed. That was mainly due to the Hanover Fair taking place at the same time. However, the attention remained somehow manageable. And there were, as I have so often experienced, no technical explanations or bulletins available FOR THE Public.
Hops, sorry this is not (yet) a hydrogen vehicle, but let's just wait another 25 years, then maybe we have achieved that too. Who knows? Everything is possible at this today`s speed.
he German companies had almost all said goodbye to this business a few years ago. But that's nothing unusual anymore ...
The fuel pump, made by Air Liquide, already requires a connected load of 4 kW. That is much!
Only where hydrogen is written on it is hydrogen inside. Where it comes from and whether it is clean and environment-friendly, most people (unfortunately) do not care. As long as there are ZERO emissions on the H2-cars, they believe that.
I can always enjoy such detailed views. That all has first to be constructed and calculated. However, the aircraft industry, where I come from the original, is still a little more complex.
These are the actual hydrogen storage tanks. With max. 300 bar
