Moritz Greif in interview with Kathleen (Kay) Quinn Larson, FuelCellStore.com, Scottsdale, AZ, USA
-What is your position in school?
I am a student in a 13th class of grammar school. I am doing the A-Level next year.
- How are your grades?
I show you my report of this year:
German 12
French 13
Politics and economy 10
History 12
Religious education 11
Maths 14
Chemistry 13
Biology 15
Informatics 15
Physics 15
(15-13) excellent, (12-10) good, (9-7) satisfying, (6-4) enough, (3-1) deficient, (0) very bad
I got Mathematics and Chemistry in a major field of study (intensive
course). In Informatics I am working on a specialized project for the
A-Level. It is about microcontroller-programming and electronics.
- What studies do you expect to follow after secondary school?
Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry are three of my most favourite
subjects at school. Electronics and Programming are a hobby of mine. I
won the first price in a “youth science contest” (“Jugend forscht”) in
Germany in 2006. I’m also interested in constructing airplane
models, a hobby I started some years ago. So I intend to study Physics
or a similar subject.
-What do you think your profession will be when you are older?
During my work experience I worked in an institute of research
(Accelerator Facility - Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung GSI) for
3 weeks. There I was even able to construct a small measurement device
on my own, which is now used there. I like solving different kind of
technical problems. I want to work in a team, and I think a research
center, where I will have my place of responisbility, would be my
favourite future workplace.
I could also imagine to work in the field of astronomy research.
-Why would you like to participate in the competition?
I am very interested in being challenged. I like discovering new
technical domains. I am looking forward to meeting people from other
countries and to exchange experiences and opinions. I intend to
concentrate on the project to work it out well and I want to contribute
all my knowledge and skills.
- In what way are you qualified to represent Germany in this competition?
I was able to collect a lot of experiences when I took part in the
youth science contest. I am getting involved in many technical projects
in school or at home. I have a comprehensive technical knowlege which I
earned in many years I worked with my fellow Manuel Kochen on different
science- and technology projects. I won some prizes in school for
excellent grades and engagement.
- How will you prepare for the competition?
I am collecting detailed information about topics like fuel cell,
efficiency, “best construction” and so on with my partner. We are
already spending a lot of time with the material we get. We will go
into the problems and we will work very hard to find the best solution.
