Manuel Kochen in interview with Kathleen (Kay) Quinn Larson, FuelCellStore.com, Scottsdale, AZ, USA
-What is your position in school?
I am a student in a 13th class of a technical secondary school.
- How are your grades?
Good is always relativ. Because of this I show you my report from this year:
German 10
English 10
Politic and economy 08
History 10
Religion 11
Math 13
Physics 12
Technical science 13
Technology 12
Sports 13
(15-13) excellent, (12-10) good, (9-7) satisfying, (6-4) enough, (3-1) deficient, (0) very bad
In technical sciences we have learned more about automation technology. One exercise was for example how to program traffic lights in case of road works. In technology we have learned how to make a proper electrical measurement this year.
- What studies do you expect to follow after secondary school?
I know that I won´t become a baker by trade. Technology and
physics are two of my most favourite subjects at school. It is even my
hobby to make measures or to calculate things in a project. With one of
these projects I have won the first price in a “youth science contest”
in Germany. Additionally I work as a technician in the band “fullstop”(www.fullstop.de). All these things lead to my favourite course of studies. I definitely want to study physics or electrical engeneering.
-What do you think your profession will be when you are older?
I wish I could work as an investigator in a laboratory. I would like to
do reaserch in a technical field. My job would be to solve complex
problems step by step in a small team. I want to follow up with all the
theoretical and the practical aspects of my job. Im looking forward to
preconceiving projects before I do the implementation, which would be
an important point in my future working life.
-Why would you like to participate in the competition?
Because I´m so interested in the project. I am definitely not afraid of
learning something new. I want to compare notes with people from other
countries. At this time I´ve got so many ideas that I want to try and I
like working in a team.
- In what way are you qualified to represent Germany in this competition?
I was able to collect a lot of experiences when I took part in the
youth contest. It is not a problem at all for me to work under preasure
because I have experiences on stage and in front of it. I have a
comprehensive technical knowlege which will help me in this competition.
- How will you prepare for the competition?
I am collecting detailed information about topics like fuel cell,
efficiency, best construction and so on with my partner. We are already
spending a lot of time with the material we get. We will go into the
problems will work very hard to find the best solution.
