The Round
Table
The Round Table is a new feature to our Forum
Programme, dealing with different issues concerning
commercialisation of Hydrogen and Fuel Cells.
On stage everyday at 1:00 p.m, leaders from different
industrial sectors exchange new approaches/ideas
relative to the topic at hand. Facilitated by
our moderator, these discussions will be interactive,
including audience participation.
Thursday, April 10: Stationary
Fuel Cells
Participants:
Gerhard Huppmann
Team Leader Concept Development
MTU CFC Solutions GmbH , Germany
The MTU Fuel Cell HotModule is a highly integrated
Carbonate Fuel Cell System for decentralized stationary
power & heat cogeneration or “tri-generation”
of power, heat, and cold. It produces the “consumable”
energy forms using decentralized available fuels
like natural gas, biogas, few-age gases etc. Utilizing
gases from thermal gasifiers is a big target with
the consequence of opening the possibility to
use waste material as a sustainable energy source.
It will start the serial manufacturing of the
HotModule in 2005.
Gus Block, Director of Commercial Hydrogen
Nuvera
Fuel Cells, USA
Nuvera is developing a stationary power product
called Forzaä to exploit the existing Hydrogen
infrastructure.
Forza is a megawatt-scale PEM Fuel Cell system
that will run off the by-product Hydrogen generated
by industrial electrolysers at chlor-alkali plants
during the production of chlorine and caustic
soda. Forza is expected to offer plant managers
a 15-20% savings on their electricity bills.
Josh Lutton, Director of Distributed Generation
Nuvera
Fuel Cells, USA
Nuvera Fuel Cells is a leading designer and developer
of Fuel Cell power systems, fuel processors, and
Fuel Cell stacks for the automotive, distributed
generation, commercial, and industrial markets.
Dipl. Ing. Guido Gummert, Managing Director
european fuel cell gmbh , Germany
BAXI GROUP LTD., Europe’s third biggest
manufacturer of boilers, estimates the combined
heat and power products to be a future market.
Therefore, BAXI’s strategy, a subsidiary
of BAXI TECHNOLOGIES, is to offer with SenerTec
a dCHP product with 5,5 kW / 12,5 kW output and
to develop, with european fuel cell GmbH future
markets. A Fuel Cell unit for domestic applications
for future markets.
The vision is that in 10 years people have our
1,5kW Fuel Cell based Home Energy Center (HEC)
in their homes to produce power and heat. To meet
the requirements of comfort for room heating and
hot water a condensing boiler will be integrated
in the HEC.
Major targets for this time frame are: increase
of lifetime for the cellstack and meeting the
product cost target.
At the Round Table “Stationary Fuel Cells”,
the participants discussed about development and
market opportunities for stationary Fuel Cell
applications.
