The Round Table
The Round Table is a new feature to our Forum
Programme, dealing with different issues concerning
commercialisation of Hydrogen and Fuel Cells.
On stage everyday at 1:00 p.m, leaders from different
industrial sectors exchange new approaches/ideas
relative to the topic at hand. Facilitated by
our moderator, these discussions will be interactive,
including audience participation.
Friday, April 11: Portable
Fuel Cells
The Round Table discussion on “Portable
Fuel Cells” was involved in commercial applications
for portable Fuel Cells and portable storage of
Hydrogen.
Participants:
Ulf Groos
Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE
Freiburg, Germany
We believe that PEM Fuel Cells will be used for
electronic applications with high power needs
(like laptops, professional cameras etc.). But
we also offer DMFC developments for markets, where
energy or operation time is more important than
high power densities.
Manfred Stefener, CEO
SFC Smart Fuel Cell AG
Brunnthal-Nord, Germany
Smart Fuel Cell is the best suited technology
to address portable markets.
Smart Fuel Cell offers a quantum leap in energy
density due to using 100% methanol as fuel. Additionally
cost structures are comparable with conventional
technologies and infrastructure for fuel cartridges
has a low complexity.
Dr.-Ing. Dieter Geppert, General Manager &
Head of LGTCE
LG
Technology Center Europe
Neuss, Germany
The technologies for portable PEM Fuel Cell systems
are quite mature. The crucial issue for commercialisation,
however, is still the lack of suitable hydrogen
storage.
