Sulzer Hexis AG
Booth No: D68/2
Company Information
Sulzer Hexis is active
in the development, production and
distribution of stationary fuel cell
systems for decentralised energy supply.
Based on a Sulzer Group project established
in 1991 called "HEXIS" (Heat
Exchanger Integrated Stack), Sulzer
Hexis Ltd was founded as a subsidiary
company in 1997. Following initial
proof of concepts, Sulzer Hexis has
aqcuired special competence in the
field of high temperature fuel cells
of SOFC-type (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell),
particularly in material development,
process control and system integration.
The company now stands
on the threshold of being a pure research
and development team and becoming
a manufacturing and distribution company.
In 2001 the company concluded its
three-year field tests, in which utilities
from several countries participated,
according to plan. The phase of production
and commissoning of a pre-series fuel
cell system has started in December
2001. This fuel cell system covers
the entire heating requirements and
the basic electricity demand of a
single-family home (mains-parallel
operation). In December 2001 the pre-series
system was CE-certified, and the first
four units were delivered. Sulzer
Hexis is the first company worldwide
to bring an advanced fuel cell system
for stationary small-scale application
to the markets.
Sulzer Hexis plans
to produce and commission 400 pre-series
systems by 2003, mainly in Germany,
Austria and Switzerland. Partner utilities
place the fuel cells at the disposal
of the endcustomer in an energy contracting
arrangement by which the installers
are included for commissioning, servicing
and maintenance of the systems.
