In 1999, building on its experience as an innovator in the education and training markets, and its academic and industrial networks, h-tec founded a division for industrial fuel cells and electrolyzers, h-tec Industrial. This new division has already produced its first prototype PEM-electrolyzer and low power PEM-fuel cell stack.
These prototypes form the basis of a modular system comprising fuel cell and electrolyzer stacks ultimately targeted for use in commercial and light industrial applications. At present h-tec Industrial is focussed on developing its systems to operate devices requiring no more than 100 W of power. Within this power range h-tec is concentrating on products where a fuel cell would offer tangible benefits over existing technologies. To this end h-tec is looking to collaborate with OEMs in the integration of its fuel cell systems into mass-market products currently powered by batteries. h-tec believes that co-operation with OEMs would yield mutual benefits and quickly and efficiently facilitate the necessary understanding of how commercial products can take advantage of and exploit fuel cells. On the one hand h-tec Industrial would be able to gear its fuel cell systems to the product specifications of its collaboration partners, who, in turn, would avoid the need to build up internal, expensive hydrogen technology expertise.
