Topic: Singapore-Developed Proton-Exchange Membrane
(S-PEM) and Fuel Cell for Green Energy Applications
Proton-exchange membrane (PEM) is the key component
of a proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC)
which is hotly pursued worldwide for green energy
applications. In this paper, we will present the
development of our prototype S-PEMFC using our
own developed fuel cell components such as our
patented membrane (S-PEM), electrodes and bipolar
plates. These developments are briefly summarized
in shown in Fig. 1.

About Prof Gan Leong Ming
Prof Gan Leong Ming is a Principal Scientist with
IMRE. He graduated with a PhD from Akron University,
USA and has had distinguished appointments with
Shell Chemical Co, USA Nanyang Technological University
and National University of Singapore. His research
interests include polymers / polyelectrolytes,
surfactants and micelles, emulsion and micro-emulsion
polymerizations, nano-composites, membranes and
fuel cells. He received the National Science Award
in 1998 for his outstanding contributions toward
tailor-made nano-structured materials via micro-emulsion
processes.
