4/Meeting
the Future
Theme:
Product Life Cycle Management
Motto:
Optimization of products in the course of the entire life
cycle
Product development within the context of sustainable development
Analysis of Life Cycle via the Internet
Realization:
Institute of Industrial Manufacturing and Management (IFF),
University of Stuttgart
The Product Life Cycle management (LCM) regards the entire
product life cycle as basis of lasting managing. Jörg Niemann
and Alexander Dauensteiner of the IFF, University of Stuttgart,
present their concept, which is to contribute to the discharge
of the environment and to the reduction of costs.
As application for LCM the IFF develops a heating system,
which is controlled and waited over Internet in co-operation
with Vaillant. By this data link it is possible that the manufacturer
can notice an error at the device within seconds. Additionally
the operational data of the system are transmitted and stored,
which supplies the necessary data basis for a product optimization.
A
product in all phases of the production over use up to the
recycling cost-moderately to seize, is the target of the Life
Cycle Costing. Jörg Niemann describes this tools of the LCM,
which enables a long-term cost optimization.
